Question : UNIFORM TARIFF IN RAILWAYS



(a) whether the Railways have taken a note that there is differential rail tariff for Iron Ore meant for export and Iron Ore meant for domestic consumption in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether there is a rampant practice of wrong labelling of ore meant for internal consumption/export in order to create malpractices in Railways;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Railways against the guilty persons;

(e) whether the Railways are considering having a uniform tariff in order to prevent such malpractices in future; and

(f) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the Railways in this regard?

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Under the present dispensation, which has been in effect since 06.06.2009, there exists a ‘dual pricing’ regime in the case of transportation of iron ore by rail. Under this dispensation, a Distance Based Charge is levied additionally in the case of iron ore transportation for export.

(c) No, Madam.

(d) Does not arise.

(e) No, Madam.

(f) Does not arise.
