THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS (SHRI VIKRAM VERMA)
(a) & (b) : A statement is laid on the Table of the House.
STATEMENT REFERRED IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) & (b) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 407 FOR 18.12.2002 REGARDING FACILITIES BY NEHRU YUVA KENDRAS ASKED BY DR. JASWANT SINGH YADAV
(a) The Nehru Yuva Kendras (NYKs) cater to the personality development needs of the non-student rural youth enrolled through village level Youth Clubs/Mahila Mandals. In fact, the NYKs mobilize the rural youth and motivate them to organize themselves into Youth Clubs and Mahila Mandals. Through this process and by involving the rural youth in various activities, such as, education and training, awareness generation, skill development for self-employment, work camps, promotion of rural sports and culture, etc., these Kendras help build their capacities to equip them to become productive members of the society. The NYKs also undertake schemes/programmes of various Ministries of the Government of India and the State Governments for implementation by involving the rural youth therein. In addition, the NYKs provide avenues to the rural youth to enrol themselves as Volunteers under two important schemes of this Ministry, namely, the National Service Volunteers and the National!
Reconstruction Corps. The services rendered by the NYKs to the youth in different states are, by and large, the same.
(b) There is no proposal with the Government to open new Kendras during the current Financial Year.
