Question : AUTHORISED LOCAL CHEMISTS



(a) the number of authorized local chemists under CGHS in National Capital Territory of Delhi;

(b) the criteria for appointing local chemists attached to CGHS dispensary;

(c) whether the medicines supplied by these chemists to CGHS are verified properly; and

(d) if so, the number of samples verified by the Government during the last two years and the outcome thereof?

(a): There are thirty-six(36) Authorised Local Chemists under CGHS Delhi.

(b): The procedure followed for appointing Authorised local chemists under CGHS Delhi is as under:-

1.	Advertisements are placed in the leading Newspapers regarding issue of Tenders for	appointment of Authorised local chemists under CGHS Delhi which includes the satellite	towns of Faridabad, Ghaziabad, NOIDA and Gurgaon.

2. A Committee duly constituted opens and scrutinises the Tenders on the basis of the criteria laid down in the tender document. All the approved bids are referred to another Committee duly constituted for inspection of the establishment/premises of the bidding chemists.

3. The Inspection Committee recommends the names of bidders found suitable for being appointed as Authorised local chemist.

4. The criteria for appointment of Authorised local chemists under CGHS are mainly based on the maximum discount offered on the printed/Retail Price of the drug/medicine by the bidding chemist and the proximity of the chemist`s shop/establishment to the CGHS dispensary.

5. The Authorised local chemists under CGHS Delhi are appointed for a period of two years.



(c): Yes, Sir. The medicines supplied by the CGHS Authorised local chemists against the individual prescription of the beneficiaries are verified and checked by the CMO In-charge and the Pharmacist/Storekeeper of the concerned CGHS dispensary before it is given to the CGHS beneficiaries.

(d): Under Section 23 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation(CDSCO), North Zone Office, has drawn samples for test analysis from the various CGHS dispensaries and Medical Stores Depot under CGHS, Delhi, as per details given below:-

In addition to the above, during 2004-2005, the CDSCO, (North Zone) Office inspected twenty-six Authorised local chemists appointed under CGHS Delhi having their shops/establishment in the NCT of Delhi and has drawn eighteen samples for test and analysis.
