Question : PRODUCTION OF MILK IN BIHAR



(a) whether the average milk production in Bihar is very low;

(b) whether the Government of Bihar has sent any special proposal to Union Government for increasing milk production;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the reaction of the Government in this regard?

(a): No, Sir. Milk production in Bihar has been increasing. Total milk production in the State during the last three years is given below.

(b) to (d): Government of Bihar had in August, 2000 submitted a proposal for Integrated Dairy Development Project (IDDP) in Nalanda district. The project has been approved for implementation from the year 2000-2001 to 2004-2005 with an outlay of Rs.447.73 lakh. Another project seeking assistance for strengthening of network for cattle and buffalo breeding was received from the State Government in September, 2000. The State Government has been requested to revise the proposal in conformity with guidelines for National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding.
