Question : FOREST CONSERVATION IN MANIPUR



(a) the names of areas in Manipur selected for forest Conservation;

(b) the details of land brought under forest land during the last three years in Manipur , district - wise ;

(c) the target fixed for the purpose and the progress made int this regard , district - wise; and

(d) the concrete steps being taken by the Government in this regard ?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS (SHRI BABU LAL MARAND ):

(a) The Government of Manipur have declared following wildlife sanctuaries and national park under Wildlife (Protection ) Act , 1972 :

In addition to national parks and sanctuaries approximately 16600 sq.km area under forests also function as conservation area.

(b) As per the State of Forest Report 1999 there is no increase in forest cover in Manipur during the period 1995 to 1998

(c) and (d) Achievements of afforestation carried out in Manipur during 1997 -98 and 1998 -99 are 4403 and 6197 hectare respectively. The targets for afforestation in Manipur during 1999-2000 was 12,000 hectare.
