Question : Teaching of Yoga

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to impart the teaching of yoga at affordable rates;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by the Government in this regard;

(c) whether certain Institutions like Siri Fort Sports Complex (SFSC) under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) are charging exorbitant fees per month from yoga students;

(d) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to ensure that not more than Rs. 500/- p.m. is charged by the organisation in SFSC?

ANSWER

(a) & (b): Ministry of AYUSH through its autonomous Institute namely Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), New Delhi provides various courses of Yoga at affordable rates. The details are at Annexure. The Ministry, however, does not make any intervention in the market rates of Yoga teaching.
(c) Coaching charges (per month) for Yoga at Siri Fort Complex under Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi, by different agencies are as follows:
i. Delhi Yoga Sabha: Rs. 500/- + GST
ii. Outdoor Yoga by Sh. Ashok: Rs 1000/- + GST
iii. Vedic Ashtanga Yoga by Sh. Ashok: Rs 1500/- + GST

As reported by Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi, these rates of fees are reasonable.
(Non –members can avail the above coaching on payment of 25% additional coaching fees).
(d): Does not arise in view of the above.
(e): The SFSC is run by DDA and Ministry of AYUSH does not have administrative control of the same. However the rates mentioned at (c) above are reasonable.
