(a) whether the Government have ascertained the number of sick small scale industries during the years 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-2001;
(b) if so, the details thereof, year-wise and sector-wise; and
(c) the investment made in these industries during each of the above mentioned years?

(a) to (c): As per the latest data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the number of sick small scale industries as at the end of March, 1999 & 2000 were 3,06,221 and 3,04,235 respectively. The Sector-wise details on sick small scale industries and amount outstanding against them during these years are given in the Annexure. Information for the year ending March, 2001 is yet to be compiled by the RBI.
