(a) whether the World Bank has sanctioned funds to improve the transportation system of various States in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the names of the States for which funds have been sanctioned by the World Bank for the said purpose and the amount of funds allocated to each of the State from that funds?

(a) & (b) : Yes, Madam. As per available information, a World Bank-Global Environment Facility (GEF) - UNDP assisted Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP) has been launched on 9.6.2010 by Urban Development Ministry with the objective of capacity building in urban transport area and also for taking up a few demonstration projects in some select cities, namely, Pune (Maharashtra), Pimpri-Chinchwad (Maharashtra), Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Mysore (Karnataka) and Naya Raipur (Chhattisgarh). The projects proposed to be undertaken by the cities cover Public Transport, Non-Motorised Transport, Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and Integrated Planning and Transit Oriented Development (IPTOD).

(c) The names of the States for which funds have been sanctioned by the World Bank for the project and amount of funds allocated to each State are given in the Annexure.
