Question : Highway incident and Allied Services Scheme

(a) whether the National Highways Authority of India has decided to roll out a highway incident and allied services scheme to aid road users across the country;

(b) if so, the details of the scheme and the views expressed by various State Government/UTs on the proposed scheme;

(c) whether the patrolling of police/security agencies on National Highways are found inadequate resulting increase in crimes, if so, the reasons therefor; and

(d) the steps Union Government has taken/propose to take to control such crimes?

(a) to (d) Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has considered an initiative of operationalising Information Technology (IT) enabled surveillance systems across National Highways (NHs) to facilitate highway users. This is critical for facilitating enhanced road safety and reduction in number of road accident deaths, effective enforcement of law and order on the NHs and monitoring of traffic patterns for future planning. To take forward the above initiative, cooperation of state governments is required.
