Question : COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING



(a) whether the Government proposes to impart Compulsory Military Training through the Nati- onal Cadet Corps (NCC) to students of schools and colleges in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the percentage of the students community who are enrolled in the NCC Junior and Senior division in the entire country at present, State / UT-wise;

(d) whether any complaint regarding misappro- priation of funds meant for NCC activities have come to the notice of the Government; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken by the government thereon?

MINISTER OF DEFENCE (SHRI MANOHAR PARRIKAR)

(a) No, Madam.

(b) Does not arise in view of (a) above.

(c) Students in the age group 13 to 181/2 years are eligible to be enrolled in Junior Division (JD)/Junior Wing (JW) and those below in the age of 26 year in Senior Division (SD) and senior wing (SW). Details of students in this age group State and UT wise are not maintained. The details of students enrolled in NCC in schools and colleges state/UT wise is attached at Appendix ‘A’.

(d) Yes, Madam. A very few aberrations have been reported wherein misutilisation of funds meant for NCC activities was alleged. Due investigation were carried out and corre- ctive action has been initiated not only to punish the person found blameworthy but also to improve the procedures wherever required.
