Question : GUAVA CROP AFFECTED BY WELT DISEASE



(a) whether the Government is aware that the production of Guava has decreased due to `Welt Disease` in Uttar Pradesh particularly in the Allahabad region;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to combat this disease and the benefit of the new technique is likely to be provided to the farmers of this areas?

(a) to (c) Guava wilt is a major problem in Uttar Pradesh. Central Institute for Sub Tropical Horticulture (CISH), Lucknow have formulated a package of recommendations to combat this problem which is being disseminated to the guava growers of the State through demonstration and training programmes. So far, 22 such demonstrations have been organized by CISH, Lucknow on farmers` fields. National Horticulture Board have provided financial assistance to CISH, Lucknow for this purpose for introduction of new technologies.
