Question : Regulatory Norms for Alcoholic Beverages

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has approved and incorporated new regulatory norms and standards for alcoholic beverages and organic foods in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) whether some terms mentioned in the earlier draft lack definition and inconsistent with global practices for labelling and standardising alcoholic beverages; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the draft is likely to be updated?

(a) & (b): Regulatory norms for Organic Foods have not been finalised as yet. The draft standards for Alcoholic Beverages were approved by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India in its meeting held on 4.9.2015 and have been notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade and WTO Sanitary and Phyto Sanitary members countries on 29.10.2016 and 01.12.2015, respectively.

(c) &(d): The draft regulations have been prepared with clarity and keeping the India specific issues also in view.
