Question : SETTING UP OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTSRY AT VILLAGE



(a): whether the Government has formulated any scheme to set up at least one small scale industry in every village in order to prevent the migration of people to the urban areas in search of jobs in the Tenth Plan; and

(a)&(b): The setting up of small scale industries (SSI) is an activity of individual entrepreneurs. The Government facilitates the development and promotion of small scale industries through various schemes/programmes implemented uniformly throughout the country for improving flow of credit, technology upgradation, infrastructure development, entrepreneurship development, marketing, fiscal support, etc. Further, the Government implements employment generation programmes like the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) and Prime Minister`s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) and a National Programme for Rural Industrialisation (NPRI) for promotion of rural industries. The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) also implements a Rural Industries Programme (RIP), an integrated programme for creation of employment in rural areas through enterprise promotion, to address the problems of rural unemployment, migration of people to urban areas, etc.
