Question : WORKING HOURS NORMS FOR WORKERS



(a) whether a large number of workers/labourers are made to work more than the prescribed time-limit as per the labour laws;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(c) whether the Government proposes to bring any bill in this regard to discourage and penalise such practice; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): No such data is maintained Centrally. However, suitable provisions exist under the Factories Act, 1948 and the Mines Act, 1952 prescribing the working hours for a worker. There are penalty provisions under both the Acts for any violation in this regard.

(c) & (d): Adequate penalty provisions already exist in the Factories Act, 1948 and the Mines Act, 1952 for such violations.
