Question : CONFERENCE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MINISTERS



(a) whether the Government had called a meeting of the Information Technology Ministers to formulate a long term I.T. policy;

(b) if so, the agenda thereof;

(c) whether the Ministry had already obtained the view points of the State Governments on the subject;

(d) if so, details thereof;

(e) whether the Chief Ministers of States have attended a conference on Computerisation of India in July, 2000;

(f) if so, the main decisions arrived at;
(g) the funds demanded and allocated to each State, State-wise; and
(h) the action plan chalked out for implementation thereof?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.250 FOR 09-08-2000 REGARDING CONFERNCE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MINISTERS

(a),(b),(c)(d),(e),(f),(g) and (h): A meeting of State IT Ministers was held on 15.07.2000 wherein 14 Chief Ministers also attended. The Agenda for the meeting was as below:
(a) IT for Masses
(b) IT Education in Schools, Colleges and Universities
(c) E-Commerce
(d) Right of Way
(e) IT Enabled Services
(f) Permitting software industry in their residential of urban area.
After comprehensive and detailed deliberations, a Common Action Plan has been drawn as at Annexure. The financial requirement of States are reviewed from time to time and the actual allotment is made subject to financial constraint.
