Question : REVIVAL OF DRUG MANUFACTURING COMPANIES



(a) whether it is a fact that some State owned drug manufacturing companies have been declared sick/closed down;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken to revive them so far, company-wise;

(c) whether these companies were set up to meet the demand of essentialmedicines; and

(d) if so, whether the Government also proposes to disinvest its stake in loss incurring drug manufa- cturing companies and if so, the details thereof?

Presently Revival of Hindustan Antibiotics Limited (HAL) & Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL) is under consideration of Government of India. The Revival Package sanctioned for Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited (BCPL) is under implementation.

(c): Yes sir.

(d): At present, no proposal for disinvestment of the loss incurring drug manufacturing companies is under conside- ration of the Government of India.
