Question : PROBLEM OF FARMERS



(a) whether the Government is aware of the United Nations report about problem being faced by the Indian agriculture and the farmers including indebtedness, suicide by farmers, expensive inputs cost, unsustained agricultural growth etc., if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(b) whether the Government provides subsidy/assistance/loan to farmers on purchasing of various agricultural equipments/machineries/inputs under Centrally sponsored agricultural schemes;

(c) if so, the details thereof during each of the last three years and the current year, State and scheme-wise along with the criterion followed thereunder;

(d) whether the Government proposes to discontinue/reduce such subsidies under certain agricultural schemes, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and

(e) whether the subsidy to farmers in the country is less than that of developed countries, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor along with the steps taken/ being taken by the Government to address the problems of farmers and improve their economic condition in the country?
