(a) to (c) The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change supports the States/Union Territories for carrying out afforestation activities through Centrally Sponsored Scheme namely National Mission for a Green India (GIM). It aims at protecting, restoring and enhancing India’s forest cover and responding to climate change. GIM is being implemented in convergence with ongoing afforestation schemes of the Ministry namely National Afforestation Programme and funds under CAMPA, and afforestation schemes of line ministries namely Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sub-Mission on Agroforestry, National Bamboo Mission, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana etc. and State Plan Schemes. Activities under GIM were started in the year 2015-16 with a financial outlay of Rs. 46,000 crores over the period of ten years. So far, a sum of Rs. 455.75 crore has been released to fourteen states and one union territory during the period 2015-16 to 2020-21 and afforestation activities were taken up over an area of 117757 ha and Alternative fuel energy devices has been distributed to 33,099 households. The funds released during the last six years are given in Annexure-1 and the State wise details of the afforestation undertaken and distribution of alternative fuel energy devices is placed at Annexure-2.
(d) & (e) The Ministry has undertaken the revision of Mission document based on the learnings and experiences gained during the implementation and to contribute towards achieving national goals and international commitments.
