Question : Promotion of Coconut Plantation

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) for coconut and its products to the farmers;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government is considering to implement new schemes/ packages for reviving coconut plantations in various States of the country including Tamil Nadu to boost the export of coconut products;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government proposes to set up Coconut Parks and Coconut Banks to support the coconut farmers; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Government fixes Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Milling and Ball Copra on the recommendation of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), views of concerned State Governments, Central Ministries and Departments. Based on the MSP of Milling copra, the MSP for dehusked mature coconut has been fixed at Rs. 1600 per quintal for 2016.
(c) & (d): The Government is implementing replanting & rejuvenation of coconut gardens in 11 districts of Kerala since 2013-14.

The scheme was also introduced in Karnataka as pilot scheme during 2015-16.
