Question : COLOUR BLINDNESS



(a) the posts for which the persons suffering from colour blindness are declared to be unfit;

(b) whether the Government propose to exempt the candidates who are found colour blind in the medical examination after passing the written and oral examinations and whether there is any proposal under consideration of Government to include such candidates in the handicapped category; and

(c) if not, the reasons for adopting such norms in regard thereto?

(a)&(c) Colour Blindness is not covered as a category of disability under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and therefore persons suffering from Colour Blindness are not eligible to claim reservation benefits under the Act. There is no proposal under consideration of the Government to recognize Colour Blindness as a category of disability under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995.
