Question : FAME Scheme

(a) whether the umbrella organisation of auto industry, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has urged the Government to increase the outlay under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle (FAME) scheme;
(b) if so, the action proposed to be taken by the Government thereon;
(c) whether SIAM has also requested the Government to extend the scheme to the entire country and if so, the reaction of the Government thereto;
(d) whether the Government has any plan to come out with longer term schemes and larger outlays towards the FAME scheme; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): While discussions regarding FAME Scheme have been held with Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) from time to time, no formal request to increase the outlay or to extend the coverage of scheme has been received from SIAM.

(d) & (e): The overall FAME Scheme is proposed to be implemented over a period of 6 years, till 2020. However, the Phase-1 of the scheme is being implemented over a period of 2 years i.e. 2015-16 and 2016-17 commencing from 1st April 2015.

Based on the outcome and experience gained in Phase-I, the scheme shall be reviewed appropriately with inputs from stakeholders for implementation and allocation of funds in the post 31st March 2017 period.
