(a) National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) implements a plan scheme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) viz. “S&T Entrepreneurship Development” for promotion of knowledge based technology driven entrepreneurship. The scheme supports a variety of programmes for promotion of entrepreneurship. Some of the major programmes supported under the scheme are : Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) and Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Parks (STEPs) for nurturing technology and innovation based new ventures largely in and around academic institutions; Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centres (IEDCs) at academic institutions to encourage innovation among Science and Technology (S&T) students; S&T Entrepreneurship Development (STED) project to promote micro-enterprises at district level; innovation S&T Entrepreneurship Development (i-STED) for promoting micro enterprises in select areas of technologies. NSTEDB also supports various modules of training programmes on

entrepreneurship such as organization of Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps (EACs) in academic institutions to create awareness among students and faculty on entrepreneurship; Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDPs), Technology Based EDPs , Women Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (WEDPs) to train S&T persons in various facets of entrepreneurship and Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) to train faculty for organizing and promoting entrepreneurship in academic institutions. Besides these programmes, NSTEDB also supports various collaborative projects for scouting, supporting and scaling up of innovations and entrepreneurship.

The details of new projects initiated during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise, programme-wise is placed at Annexure –I. During last three years, facilities for nurturing 150 technology based ventures, 265 innovative student driven projects and 3300 micro enterprises have been created by the new projects initiated under various institutional programmes during the period. In addition, 2,44,015 persons have been trained under various programmes on entrepreneurship during the last three years.

(b) NSTEDB nurtures various organizations and academic institutions in implementing projects supported by NSTEDB. Agencies which are networked with NSTEDB for promotion of Science and Technology based Entrepreneurship are Academic and R&D Institutions; Institutes of Entrepreneurship Development created by various state governments; Technical Consultancy Organisations in various states promoted by all India Financial Institutions, Banks and State Governments; and Non Governmental Organisations engaged in promotion of entrepreneurship. Overall NSTEDB has supported over 250 different agencies for implementing its programs and projects during last three years.

(c) Details of various entrepreneurial initiatives are described at part (a) of the answer. NSTEDB under the plan scheme S&T Entrepreneurship Development has given financial assistance of Rs. 40.89 crores (2012-13) , Rs.39.99 crores (2013-14) and Rs. 44.00 crores (2014-15) to various entities during last three years. During the current financial year upto 31.7.2015, financial assistance of Rs. 12.49 crores has been given to various entities.

(d) NSTEDB has successfully trained 2,44015 students/prospective entrepreneurs/faculty across the country during last three years on various facets of entrepreneurship through various modules of training programmes.

(e) For each of the programmes implemented by NSTEDB as mentioned in part (a), there is a separate Expert Advisory Committee constituted by the Department and Chaired by an eminent expert to oversee the overall functioning and management of the program, Each Committee meets regularly to review the performance and suggests steps for efficient functioning of program. NSTEDB overall performance has been reviewed through evaluation studies undertaken by Expert Commitees /Reputed organizations in the year 1988, 1998 and 2013.
