Question : AYUSH Centres

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of diseases being covered under AYUSH centres across the country, State-wise including Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal;

(b) the details of diseases which are not being covered under these centres along with the reasons therefor;

(c) whether the Government is exploring the possibilities to cover new diseases in these centres, if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether clinical trial of Ayurvedic medicines is being done in the country, if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the details of achievements made under these trials so far?

(a) to (c): Public health being a State subject, the primary responsibility to provide health care services lies with the respective State/UT Governments. However, details of diseases covered/uncovered in the hospitals/dispensaries in the States/UTs including Maharashtra, Gujarat and West Bengal are not maintained by Central Government.

(d) & (e): A set of guidelines of Good Clinical Practice for the conduct of clinical trials on Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani drugs has been published and a clarification dated 4th July 2018 issued to the State Licensing Authorities about the provisions of Rule 158-B of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 pertaining to the regulatory guidelines for granting license to various categories of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani drugs on the basis of proof of safety and evidence of effectiveness including pilot studies. Research Councils of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems undertake various research activities including clinical trials.
Further, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH is conducting clinical research for validation of classical Ayurvedic formulations and also for new drug development. So far, the council has generated scientific evidence of clinical efficacy & safety of approximately 100 formulations for diseases of national importance.
CCRAS is also continuously engaged in development of new Ayurvedic drugs. CCRAS has developed 11 technologies through National Research Development Corporation (NRDC). The details are furnished at Annexure I.
The summary of councils achievements in the area of the clinical research for validation of classical Ayurvedic formulation and drug development is furnished at Annexure II.
