(c)to(e):As part of the SagarmalaProgramme, it has been estimated that coastal shipping is 80% cheaper on per tonne-kilometre basis on water compared to rail. The origin-destination study of key cargo types, conducted as part of the SagarmalaProgramme, found significant potential for moving raw materials and finished products using coastal shipping instead of rail or road. An additional coastal shipping movement potential of 115-120 MMTPAby 2025 has been identified for various cargo types (coal, petroleum, oil & lubricant, steel, cement and fertilizer). This could lead to logistics cost savings of Rs. 30,000-40,000 Crore per annum by 2025.To promote the development of coastal shipping infrastructure across the country, Ministry of Shipping has revised the scope of the Coastal Berth Scheme and merged the scheme with the SagarmalaProgramme.
