(a) & (b) : The recent power strike in Uttar Pradesh has
focused attention of the country on the need for accelerating
reforms in the power sector.
Government of India gave full support to the
Government of Uttar Pradesh in maintaining reasonable power
supply during the period of strike in Uttar Pradesh.
Government of India is extending full support to
states which are undertaking reforms as it believes that reforms
in the power sector are now imperative. Unless reforms are
implemented quickly, it may be difficult to even maintain the
present quality of power supply leave alone improve it.
