Question : PROMOTING MARTIAL ARTS AMONG WOMEN



(a) whether steps have been taken to promote martial arts in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has any scheme to promote martial arts as a sport among the girls/women in the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government proposes to include martial arts in the school/college curriculum; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Madam

(b) to (d): Government is implementing the scheme of “Assistance to National Sports Federation” under which financial assistance is provided to the recognised National Sports Federation (NSF) to promote sports & games including martial arts for men and women. The financial assistance is provided for training and participation in inter-national events abroad, holding of national/international event in India, coaching/training of national teams / Sportspersons through Indian and foreign coaches, procurement of equipment and other scientific support.

Under SAI Sports Promotional Schemes the trainees (Boys & Girls) in the disciplines of martial arts are provided expert coaching in various SAI Centres across the country. The details of such centres number of trainees are given at Annexure-I. The girls trainees are encouraged in the martial arts sports namely Judo, Karate, Taekwondo & Wushu across the country and provided expert coaching to enable them to achieve excellence in National & International level. The details of number of coaches provided under SAI Training Centres (STC) and Special Area Games (SAG) Centres in the four martial arts disciplines are given below.
