Question : SETTING UP OF ENGINEERING COLLEGES IN ANDHRA PRADESH



(a) the number of proposals received for setting up of Engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh during the last two years, year-wise;

(b) whether AICTE has issued viability certificates only to 22 engineering colleges out of 45 for which the State Government has issued NOCs;

(c) if so, the criteria followed by AICTE while rejecting the recommendations of the State Government;

(d) whether AICTE proposes to open a cell in the State to quicken the process of granting recognition; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) : The number of proposals received for setting up of Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh during last two years are as follows:

For the year 2000-2001	73 proposals	For the year 2001-2002	248 proposals


(b) : For the year 2001-2002, the State Government recommended 65 proposals out of which Letter of Viability has been issued for 29 cases by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) so far.

(c) : Proposals which are not as per the AICTE norms and standards are referred back indicating the deficiencies. On receipt of the compliance of removal of deficiencies within the stipulated period, the cases are processed as per the norms and standards and Letter of Viability is issued. Those proposals which do not meet the requirement are rejected.

(d) & (e) : AICTE is already having an Office in Southern Region located at Chennai. There is no proposal, at present, to open any more Regional Office.
