Question : JOBS IN IRAQ FOR INDIAN WORKERS



(a) whether the Indian workers have been allowed to take up jobs in Iraq after the US-led war;

(b) if so, whether the Indian diplomatic mission has appointed and recognized the recruiting agencies for hiring Indian workers;

(c) if so, the names of those recruiting agencies;

(d) the modalities chalked out to keep watch over the working conditions and to prevent exploitation of the Indian workforce;

(e) whether the Government have assessed the impact of exodus of skilled labour to other countries; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c): No, Sir. The Recruiting Agents are appointed under provisions of the Emigration Act, 1983 by the Protector General of Emigrants, Ministry of Labour.

(d): It has been decided to strictly screen all applications for emigration to Iraq and it has been made mandatory for prior attestation of all essential documents by our Mission in Iraq. Emigration of house-maids and recruitment by individuals in Iraq has not been permitted.

(e): No, Sir.

(f): Does not arise.
