Question : PROMOTION OF AYUSH



(a) The action plan drawn by the Government to strengthen and promote Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and use of medicinal/aromatic plants and herbs for therapeutic purposes in the country;

(b) The funds allocated and utilized for the purpose during each of the last three years, State/UT-wise;

(c) Whether the Government proposes to launch any programme in the electronic and print media for popularising traditional Indian medicines among the masses, and if so, the details thereof;

(d) The facilities being extended to the tourists visiting the country for ayurvedic treatment; and

(e) The measures being taken by the Government for formulating a standardisation and certification process, employing contemporary marketing and packaging techniques and filing for necessary patents for promoting and strengthening AYUSH medicines and traditional healthcare system?

STATEMENT REFFERED TO IN REPLY TO LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.447 FOR 24TH APRIL, 2015
(a) Govt. of India has drawn action plan to strengthen and promote Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and use of medicinal/aromatic plants and herbs for therapeutic purposes in the country through National AYUSH Mission (NAM) and other Centrally Sponsored and Central Sector Schemes. The details are given as at Annexure-I.
(b) The funds allocated and utilized to strengthen and promote Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) is as given below:-

(i) The funds released during last three years, State/UT-wise under Centrally Sponsored Scheme for National AYUSH Mission (NAM) is furnished at Annexure-II.

(ii) Details of Funds Allocated and utilized during the last three years for organizing National and State Level Arogya Fairs under the Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of Information, Education and Communication is at Annexure-III.

(iii) The funds allocated under Grant-in-Aid Scheme-wise for Centrally Sponsored Scheme of “National Mission on Medicinal Plants” and Central Sector Scheme for `Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants` year-wise for the last three years and a current year is placed at Annexure IV and V.
(c) Under the Central Sector Scheme for promotion of Information, Education and Communication,the Ministry organizes regular publicity campaigns through electronic & print media by utilizing the services of Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Doordarshan, All India Radio(AIR), LokSabha TV, etc. A weekly TV Programme“AYUSHMAN BHARAT”, consisting of 10 half hour episodes, has been launched in Hindi, English and other important regional languages.
(d) The Government has introduced Medical visa for foreign patients who visit India for their medical treatment. Ministry of Tourism is facilitating wellness/medical tourism and providing financial assistance under its Market Development Assistance Scheme for promotion of wellness and medical tourism in overseas market.
(e) Several measures are being taken by the Government for formulating a standardisation and certification process, employing contemporary marketing and packaging techniques.The details regarding certification process, employing contemporary marketing and packaging techniquesmay be seen at Annexure-VI.
The Ayurveda, Siddha Unani and Homeopathy Pharmacopoeias are official documents for Quality standards of ASU &H drugs. The details may be seen at Annexure-VII.
There is a Scheme for Extra Mural Research to support research and development wherein there is a provision that a result of research under the Scheme leading to a patent, the patent will be jointly applied by Ministry of AYUSH and the Principal Investigator.
