Question : National Food Security Mission

(a) whether National Food Security Mission (NFSM) has been implemented in various States of the country including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the details of works undertaken under the Mission, so far;

(c) the number of persons benefitted in various States including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Odisha under the said Mission, district-wise, and State-wise;

(d) the details of the districts in various States which are covered under the Mission so far, State-wise including Odisha;

(e) whether the Government has received a request from various States including Maharashtra for inclusion of more districts under the Mission and if so, the action taken by the Government thereon;

(f) whether the Government is considering to relax the criteria for pulse, maize and Ragi varieties and include popular varieties which are more than ten years old under the NFSM and if so, the details thereof; and

(g) the various steps taken by the Government for effective implementation of NFSM in the entire country?

(a) to (c): Yes, Madam, National Food Security Mission (NFSM) is being implemented in 638 districts of 29 States of the country including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Odisha. Under the Mission, the technology is transferred to the farmers through demonstrations on latest crop production technology and trainings. Besides, the support is also given for critical inputs like seeds, farm equipments/implements, water saving devices, plant protection chemicals, soil

ameliorants etc. The scheme is implemented through State Government in identified districts. The State and district level plan and also beneficiaries are maintained by State Government.

(d): The State-wise districts covered under the Mission including Odisha are at Annexure-I.

(e): The State Department of Agriculture, Maharashtra has not requested for inclusion of more districts under NFSM. However, the requests of State Governments for inclusion of districts are considered as per the operational guidelines of NFSM.

(f) & (g): No age relaxation has been given for maize and ragi varieties which are older than 10 years under NFSM. However, in view of constraints in availability of new varieties seeds of pulses, the Government of India has considered relaxation for pulses varieties time to time under NFSM. In order to implement National Food Security Mission effectively in the states, the Mission provides a structural mechanism viz.; National Food Security Mission -General Council under the Chairmanship of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, National Food Security Mission –Executive Council under the Chairmanship of Secretary (AC&FW). At State level, the Mission is monitored by State Food Security Mission-Executive Committee (SFSMEC) and at District level by District Food Security Mission-Executive Committee (DFSMEC). The National Food Security Mission is also monitored by National Level Monitoring Team (NLMT) constituted by Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare in fields in every crop season.
