STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 120 RAISED BY SHRI TAMRADHWAJ SAHU & SHRI RAJESHBHAI CHUDASAMA, HON’BLE MPs TO BE ANSWERED ON 7th DECEMBER 2015 REGARDING KENDRIYA VIDYALAYAS/ NAVODAYA VIDYALAYAS.
(a) & (b) Details of the State/UT wise number of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) in the country alongwith the seats available for students and the total sanctioned posts of teachers in these Vidyalayas are annexed.
(c) & (d) Proposals for opening of new KVs are considered only if sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the Government of India, State Governments / Union Territories Administrations or Organization of employees belonging to the eligible categories thereby committing resources for setting up a new KV as well as on the availability of necessary sanction of the Government. Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme provides for opening of one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in each district of the country. Opening of KVs and JNVs is a continuous process which depends upon approval by competent authority, availability of funds and availability of suitable land free of cost from the sponsoring agency as well as availability of rent free temporary accommodation to operationalise the Vidyalaya. As such, no time frame can be set for opening of KVs and JNVs.
The KGBV scheme provides for setting up of one residential upper primary school for girls from SC,ST,OBC and minority communities in each educational backward block (EBB) subject to certain conditions. As many as 3609 KGBVs have been sanctioned in the country and 3598 are operational. There are seats still available in the existing KGBVs. As such, at present, there is no immediate proposal for opening of new KGBVs.
