(a) whether ‘Maithili language is not being used on the Indian currency notes;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor; and

(c) the time by which ‘Maithili’ language is likely to appear on Indian currency notes?

Answer given by the minister

ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY FOR FINANCE
(SHRI JAYANT SINHA)

(a) to (c): Currency, Maithili is not incorporated in the Indian currency notes. Demands have been raised from time to time to incorporate all the languages included in the Eighth Schedule but Government is of the view that inclusion of all the languages in the Banknote may not be possible as it would require expanding the space used by the language panel thereby cluttering the design and leaving less space for security features.
