Question : Subsidy under FAME-II

(a) whether the State Government of Karnataka has submitted any proposal to avail subsidy under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric vehicles (FAME-II) scheme;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether it is being reported that Karnataka has not been able to get bidders for the estimated cost and the State Government is finding the prices quoted by bidders who are willing to provide electric buses on lease, very high and as a result, further delay will occur
and the deadline may be missed;

(d) if so, whether the Government would consider extending the deadline; and

(e) whether it is incumbent on the State Government to find a suitable bidder and avail subsidies under FAME-II and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e): Department of Heavy Industry had invited the Expression of Interest (EoI) from million plus cities, smart cities, State/UT capitals and cities from special category states for submission of proposal for deployment of Electric Buses on operational cost basis. In response thereof, proposal from State of Karnataka was received for deployment of electric buses and after evaluation of the proposal as per EoI, on the advice of Project Implementation and Sanctioning Committee (PISC) the Government sanctioned 350 electric buses to 2 Cities / State Transport Corporations for intra-city operation; 50 electric buses for intercity operation. Under FAME India Phase II scheme, the amount of incentives may further be subject to competitive bidding among the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) conducted by public transport undertakings.
