Question : UNIFORM ACADEMIC SESSION



(a) whether the Delhi High Court has recently directed the Union Government to implement uniform academic session in all the universities of the country from next academic session;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the action being taken by the Government to implement this decision?

(a) to (c): The Central Government is not aware of any such directions by the Delhi High Court. However, the UGC has issued two regulations to provide for uniform academic calendar namely (1) UGC (Minimum standard of Instructions for the grant of First Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003 (1st Amendment, 2007) and (2) UGC (Minimum standard of Instructions for the grant of Master’s Degree through Formal Education) Regulations, 2003 (1st Amendment, 2007) which prescribes adherence to uniform Academic Calendar by all Universities in the country. The said regulations are available at the UGC website viz-www.ugc.ac.in.
