Question : AVAILABILITY OF LIFE SAVING DRUGS AT AFFORDABLE PRICE



(a) whether the Government proposes to declare all life saving drugs as scheduled drugs to control their prices;

(b) if not, the manner in which the Government proposes to make available life saving drugs at affordable prices to the poor people;

(c) whether life saving drugs are not available in rural and remote areas; and

(d) if so, the steps taken by the Government to make available life saving drugs in all parts of the country including hilly/remote/rural areas?

(a) and (b) National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy, 2012 (NPPP,2012) notified by the Government on 7th Dec,2012 has the provisions of bringing under price control the medicines of strengths and dosage forms as specified in National List of Essential Medicines-2011(NLEM-2011).

(c) and (d) NPPA monitors shortages & availability of drugs on the basis of monthly reports received from State Drugs Control Administration and also complaints, if any, received from individuals etc. On receipt of such reports, NPPA immediately takes up the matter with the concerned manufacturer and advise them to rush the stock in the affected area. NPPA has not received any specific report about non availability/ shortage of drugs.
