Question : Sale of Processed Food Items

(a) the details of the tendency of increase in retail sale of processed food items in the country during the last three years;

(b) the details of the processed food items which have recorded the maximum increase in retail sale during the said years;

(c) the details of global share of the country in processed food items;

(d) the quantum of processed food items exported from the country; and

(e) the value and share of processed food items of the country in global export?

(a): Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation brings out data on manufacturing sectors including food processing. However, data on retail sales is not brought out. Exports of agri-food including processed food items have increased at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.18% during the last 3 years from 2018-19 to 2020-21.

(b): The processed food items showing maximum increase in exports, over the last 3 years ending 2020-21, were refined sugar/ cane sugar, soft drinks, prepared/ preserved potato, cane molasses, prepared/ preserved groundnuts, shrimps & prawns, etc.

(c) to (e): The share of agri-food exports from India in the global agri-food exports was 2.31% in 2020. Total agri-food exports including processed food products was US$ 38.32 billion in 2020-21.
