(a) the details of scholarships instituted for encouraging scientific temper among young talented students and beneficiaries during the last three years;

(b) whether the Government institute such scholarships for encouraging the youth of rural areas; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a) The Department of Science & Technology, Government of India has instituted a very attractive scholarship scheme called the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Scholarships to instil scientific temper among young talented students. It is open to students after Class X, XII and first year of B.Sc., B.Tech. and MBBS. The amount of fellowships is in the range of Rs.2000/- to Rs.3000/-.

Among other schemes of the Government are the Biotechnology Fellowships of the Department of Biotechnology, the CSIR Programme of Youth for Leadership in Science and NCERT`s National Talent Search Scholarships.

The beneficiaries of these Scholarship Schemes have been young School and College students from across the country.

(b) & (c) The above scholarships are open to all students, including those from rural areas.
