Question : DEVELOPMENT OF AIRPORT HUB



(a) whether the Government is actively considering developing an airport hub in India on the lines of the airport hubs exist in Singapore and Dubai;

(b) if so, whether this Ministry has written to Finance Ministry for exemption or reduction of taxes for the purpose;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government has proposed to build the airport hub centering the existing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport at Kolkata;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a),(b)&(c) Government have,in principle, approved creation of world-class Multi Modal International Passenger and Cargo Hub at Dr.Ambedkar Internatioal Airport,Nagpur.For operationalisation and incentivising this Project the Maharashtra State Government has undertaken various infrastructure works around the airport and offered financial incentives like stamp duty waiver, etc.

(d),(e)&(f) Airports Authority of India(AAI) have proposed modernisation of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport,Kolkata at a total cost of Rs.1942.51 crores.AAI has already created capacity for cargo handling at Kolkata airport upto 1,00,695 MT,which is estimated to be sufficient to cater to cargo traffic upto 2015-16.
