Question : EXPORT OF LEATHER PRODUCTS H

(

(a) whether the Government have revised the export policy under which export of leather products has been freed; (

(b) if so, the main features of the revised export policy in respect of leather and leather products; (

(c) the time by which it is likely to be implemented; and (

(d) the benefits likely to accrue to leather industry as result thereof?

( a ) to ( d ) : There has been no change in the export policy for leather products which remain freely exportable. However, the Government has w.e.f. 20-10-2000 revised the export policy in respect of raw and semi - finished hides and skins. These items can now be exported subject to payment of export duties ranging from 0% to 60%. Export can be made after registering of the export contract with the Council for Leather Exports. This policy has already come into effect and is expected to bring competitiveness in domestic industry for modernisation and upgradation.
