Question : Targets for Textile Production

(a) whether the textile workers in the country are facing problems due to a slump in the textile sector; and

(b) if so, the action proposed to be taken for safeguarding the interests of textile workers?

(c) the details of various programmes/schemes being implemented by the Government for improving the working and economic conditions of textile workers in the country;

(d) the details of funds allocated under these programmes/schemes during each of the last three years and the current year, programmes/schemes and State/UT-wise;

(e) the details of target fixed and achieved under these schemes/ programmes during the said period/ programme; and

(f) whether the Government has reviewed implementations of the said schemes/programmes, if so, the details and outcome thereof?

(a): There are no visible signs of slump in the textile sector as may be seen from the figures given for production and exports and installed capacity of textile items during last 3 years and the current year as given below:-

The Man-made filament yarn and export of textile has seen only a marginal decline.

(c): The Ministry implements various schemes for improving the working and economic conditions of the textile workers like Handloom Weaver Comprehensive Welfare Scheme, Handicraft Artisans Comprehensive Welfare, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana, Group Workshed Scheme, Scheme for In-Situ up-gradation of plain Powerloom, Workers’ Hostel, Integrated Skill Development Scheme, etc.

(d): The details of various schemes/programmes along with the funds allocated and utilizations for the last three years (including current year) is given at Annexure-I.

(e): The details of the target fixed and an achievement of the said schemes for last three years is given at Annexure-II.

(f): Yes, Madam. Ministry reviews progress in implementation of all the schemes on a regular basis, as well as through regional conferences with state governments and other implementing agencies.
