Question : Efficacy of AYUSH System of Medicine

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the most popular and well received system of medicine among the AYUSH system of medicine;
(b) whether the Government has conducted any study to assess and evaluate the efficacy and popularity of each of the AYUSH system of medicine and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether it is a fact that some other countries have stopped supporting Homoeopathy system of medicine because of poor efficacy/results and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the share of Central outlay presently received by each of the AYUSH system of medicines and plans for thrust areas in future?

(a) As per 68th round of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) during 2011-12, it was estimated about 28.4% people are using any AYUSH treatment (one or more than one AYUSH systems) in the country.

Usage of Indian System of Medicine (ASU) [(Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani)] is highest in India at 22% among other systems of medicines under AYUSH. Homoeopathy is being used by about 7.1% and Yoga & Naturopathy by 2.5% people in India.

(b) To assess the efficacy of AYUSH system of medicine, Ministry of AYUSH has constituted 5 Research Councils namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN) and Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS), who are constantly undertaking organized research to establish the efficacy of respective system.

(c) There is no official information on stopping support for Homoeopathy system of medicine in some countries.

(d) The system wise details of outlay during the year 2016-17 are as follows: -
