Question : CONSTRUCTION OF PROJECTS WITHOUT CLEARANCES



(a) whether many sensitive departments of the Government have breached environmental laws by starting construction work on strategic projects without obtaining necessary clearances in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has taken up this matter seriously with these departments and have asked them to get the necessary clearances and till then stop the work;

(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b) The Ministry of Environment and Forests has received a representation dated 1st February, 2013 from Environment Support Group, Bangalore, Karnataka relating to violation of provisions of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 etc. in respect of certain activities in Challakere Taluk, Chitradurga District, Karnataka.

(c) to (e) The matter is being looked into.
