Question : Management of Deemed Universities

(a) whether it is true that the Government wants the provision that mandates a
Government representative on the Board of Management to be deleted in the
Management of Deemed Universities and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether it is also true that currently a provision states that no deemed university
shall demand, charge or accept capitation fee or donation for admission and the
Government proposed that this should be removed and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government is also considering to do away with the provision which
states that UGC can direct any upward revision of the deemed university corpus; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a): No, Madam.
(b): Yes, Madam. As per Clause 6.7 of the existing University Grants Commission
(Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2016, no Institution Deemed to be
Universities shall, directly or indirectly, demand or charge or accept, capitation fee or
demand any donation, by way of consideration for admission to any seat or seats in a
course or programme of study conducted by it. Presently, there is no proposal to
remove this provision from the Regulations.
(c) & (d): No such proposal is under consideration of the Government.
