(a) The Ministry along with the States/UTs has been making concerted efforts for improving the timely payment of wages. States/UTs have been advised to generate pay orders in time. This has resulted in considerable improvement in the status of timely generation of pay order and leading to improvement in the actual time taken to credit wages in the workers accounts. Status of the percentage of payment generated within 15 days:

(b) State-wise details of total rejected transactions and transactions pending for regeneration under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS in the financial year 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 are given at Annexure. Regeneration of rejected transactions is the responsibility of the State Governments, for which they have been reminded earlier on multiple occasions.
(c) Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage employment programme which provide for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work. In the current FY 2021-22 (as on 08.03.2022), 99.47% of households are offered employment against their demand for work under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS.

(e) Mahatma Gandhi NREG Act is to provide at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to each household in rural areas of the country whose adult members volunteers to do unskilled manual work. In addition to this, there is a provision for upto additional 50 days of unskilled wage employment in a financial year in drought/natural calamity notified rural areas. As per Section 3 (4) of the Mahatma Gandhi NREG Act, 2005, the State Governments may make provision for providing additional days beyond the period guaranteed under the Act from their own funds.
