Question : POTENTIAL OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

(a) whether the Government has conducted any survey of renewable energy potentials(Geo-thermal,Solar energy and Wind energy) in the country including Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF NEW AND RENEWABLE ENERGY(DR. FAROOQ ABDULLAH)

(a)&(b): A potential of around 86,000 MW has been estimated for power generation through various renewable energy sources (excluding solar) in the country including Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. State-wise details are given in Annexure-I. The potential for solar energy is estimated for most parts of the country at around 20 MW per square kilometer of open, shadow free area covered with solar collectors.

The estimated potential of Geothermal Energy is about 150 MW mainly at Puga valley in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir and Tattapani in Chhatisgarh.

(c): Does not arise.
