(a): At present, Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme have been extended to 596 districts, which include 444 districts fully covered and 152 partially covered.

(b) & (c): The ESI hospitals and dispensaries are established at various locations of the country in accordance with ESIC norms based on the Insured Person (IP) population in the area, irrespective of the area being tribal, backward or hilly.
To provide facilities to newly notified districts, ESIC has made a provision for engagement of private medical practitioners under modified Insurance Medical Practitioners (mIMP) scheme and collaborated with Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) for secondary and tertiary medical care services to ESI beneficiaries.
(d): During last 2 years, ESIC has established 1 hospital, 34 dispensaries and 20 Dispensary-cum-Branch Offices (DCBOs).
(e): The ESI Corporation, in its meetings held on 06.12.2017 & 19.02.2019, approved the following criteria for upgradation of an ESI dispensary into a 6 bedded and 30 bedded ESI hospital, which inter-alia includes: -
For 6 bedded hospital:
i. Dispensary to be housed in own building
ii. No ESIC/ESI Scheme (ESIS) hospital within the radius of 10 km. in metro cities and 20 km. in other areas, and
iii. At least a 5-doctor dispensary covering minimum 10000 IP population, or average OPD of 200 per day during the last 3 years
For 30 bedded hospital:
i. Minimum 20000 IP population within a radius of 25 km of the proposed location, and
ii. No ESI healthcare institution within the radius of 25 km.
(f): No proposal has been received from the state of Andhra Pradesh for upgradation of ESI dispensary into a 6 or 30 bedded hospital.
