Question : NOS for Students with Disabilities

(a) the status of implementation of the national overseas scholarship for students with disabilities, including the number of students awarded the scholarship and funds sanctioned/spent on the same during the last three years and the current year, State-wise;
(b) the number of applications received from disabled students under the scheme for this scholarship during the said period and the number of applications cleared; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to create awareness about this scheme and so as to reach larger number of beneficiaries?

a) & b): The scheme of National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities was launched on 11th August, 2014. Applications from all eligible students were called for by inviting applications in Ministry’s website and also newspaper advertisement. The last date of receipt of application was 1st December, 2014. As this is a central sector scheme no funds were released to the State. Only two applications were received in 2014-15 and both were found not eligible under the scheme.

c) In order to create awareness about this scheme, the Department is releasing advertisement in all leading newspaper in English, Hindi and Vernacular languages in addition to uploading of advertisement details in the website of the department. Further letters were sent to all Chief Secretaries informing them to give wide publicity in the Schools and Colleges all across the country.
