(a) the criteria adopted for the sanctioning of financial
aid to the Madarsas;
(b) the total amount disbursed as the grant for Madarsas in
the country for the modernisation of Madarsas Education
during the past 3 years, State-wise and year-wise;
(c) whether the Government have received proposals for
securing grants from states;
(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and
(e) the response of the Union Government thereto?

(a) Under the Scheme of financial assistance of Area
Intensive and Madarsa Modernisation Programme, 100%
financial assistance is given to State Governments for
voluntary organizations/societies/trusts which are
registered under Central or State Government Acts or Wakf
Boards. Under this scheme only those voluntary agencies
which have been in existence for three years are
considered for assistance. All proposals are duly forwarded
and recommended by the State Governments / Union
Territories. The
grants are meant for the salaries of teachers of subjects
like Hindi, English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, etc.
Grants are also provided for Book banks, Science & Maths
kits.
(b) The total amount disbursed as grant for Madarsas in the
country for the modernisation of Madarsas Education during
the past three years is given in the statement enclosed
(Annexure).
(c) to (e) Yes, Sir. During the current financial year,
proposals for financial assistance under the scheme from the
following State Governments have been received :-
