(a) & (b) Madam, the primary responsibility of development and promotion of a sport including
holding of various events and tournaments rests with the concerned National Sports Federations
(NSFs). Government supplements the efforts of the NSFs by providing financial assistance to the
NSFs for procurement of equipment, holding national / international sports events in India,
participation of sportspersons/teams in international sports events abroad, training/ coaching
of national level sportspersons/teams, etc.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been recognized by the Government of India for
promotion of football in the country. AIFF has informed that the I-League, the premier league
of India is being organized by them since 2007. It is played among the 14 premier clubs of the
country.
