STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (A) TO (C) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. †*340 TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 9th AUGUST, 2018 REGARDING “CONSERVATION / PRESERVATION OF GANGA RIVER” ASKED BY SHRI CHANDRA PRAKASH JOSHI & SHRI RAMDAS C. TADAS, HON’BLE MPs

(a) Union Government approved “ Namami Gange – Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission/ Programme” in May 2015 with a budget outlay of Rs.20,000 crore by converging ongoing programmes and new components to be implemented by 2020. Till date, 221 projects at an estimated cost of Rs.22,238 crore have been sanctioned for sewerage infrastructure, bioremediation, modular Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), rural sanitation (construction of Individual Household Latrine (IHHL) across gram panchayat along Ganga river), industrial pollution abatement, river front development, ghats and crematoria development, ghats cleaning, river surface cleaning, biodiversity conservation, afforestation, institutional development (non-infrastructure), project implementation support / research and study projects, and composite ecological task force.

In last 3 years, following works have been undertaken for conservation/preservation of Ganga river:
